Stenographer Grade-III :
Candidates must meet the following educational requirements:

  • Degree Requirement:
    • Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in either Arts (B.A.) or Science (B.Sc.) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
  • Computer Proficiency:
    • Proficiency in computers is essential, particularly in word processing and spreadsheets, as these skills are vital for the role.
  • Language Proficiency:
    • Applicants must have passed the matriculation examination with Punjabi as either a compulsory or elective subject—or an equivalent examination in the Punjabi language. Candidates who do not have Punjabi as a subject at the matriculation level may still apply; however, if selected, they will be required to pass a Punjabi language examination during the probation period. Failure to do so may lead to cancellation of the appointment

    Exam Pattern

    The selection process for the Stenographer Grade-III posts involves a two-stage examination procedure

    1. Computer Based Test (CBT):
      • Format: 60 objective-type multiple choice questions
      • Subjects: English Composition and General Knowledge
      • Duration: 1 hour
      • Marking: Each question carries 1 mark with no negative marking
      • Merit List Preparation: Normalization of marks may be applied if the test is conducted in multiple shifts. In such cases, the top 0.1% of candidates’ average marks are used to establish a benchmark for normalization.
    2. Subsequent Tests (for Shortlisted Candidates):
      • English Shorthand & Transcription Test:
        • Task: Candidates must transcribe dictation taken at a speed of 80 words per minute in English shorthand and then type the transcription on a computer at 20 words per minute.
        • Passing Criterion: Candidates must not commit more than 8% errors.
      • Spreadsheet Test:
        • Duration: 10 minutes
        • Marks: 10 marks (qualifying in nature)

    Requirement: Candidates need to secure at least 40% (i.e., 4 marks) to qualify.
